Competitive Bid Areas
Definition
A geographic area established by the Secretary for the purposes of the (DMEPOS) Competitive Bidding Program. These geographic areas can represent a portion of multiple counties and/or states within the same Competitive Bid Area. There are many CBAs that include multiple states. The Office of Management and Budget's formal definition of metropolitan areas referred to as "Metropolitan Statistical Areas" (MSAs) are composed of counties and county-equivalents.91 Competitive Bid Areas

Competitive Bid Areas
Each CBA is a metropolitan statistical area which has been defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Each MSA contains a list of cities and/or counties. Medicare defines the CBA by listing zip codes from the MSA.Round 1:
New Bid Prices effective 1/1/2011If your company was not awarded a contract for Round 1, you CANNOT provide equipment, supplies and services to Medicare beneficiaries that live in a Round 1 CBA on 1/1/2011.
