Round 2 Product Categories

Product Category Definition:

The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) designated the items that were included in the Round 1 Rebid.  These "Items" are defined as a product included in a competitive bidding program that are identified by a Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code.  A product category includes a group of related HCPCS.
 
Bidders are required to bid for each item listed in the product category selected.  For example, a bid for Hospital Bed product category includes a Bariatric Bed for patients weighing more than 600 lbs.  Even though a bidder may have never supplied this type of Hospital Bed, the bidder must bid on the item.
 

What are the Product Categories for Round 2?

CMS has not announced the product categories for Round 2 of Competition.  CMS must still go through the rule making process.  This summer 2011, the proposed rule is expected to be released for comments which will include product categories and education requirements for Round Two.  In fall 2011, CMS will publish the final rule and finalize the product categories to be included in Round 2 competition.  When the final product categories are released, this web page will be updated immediately and Agape’s newsletter subscribers will receive an email notification.  Sign up now for the newsletter.
 

Round 1 Rebid

In the Round 1 Rebid, the product categories listed below were included in the competition.   Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Pumps and Group 3 Complex Rehab Power Wheelchairs were excluded from the Round 1.2 Rebid.

• Complex Rehabilitative Power Wheelchairs and Related Accessories (Group 2 only, Group 3 is excluded)

• Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Devices, Respiratory Assist Devices (RADs), and Related Supplies and Access


• Hospital Beds and Related Accessories

Round 2 Products

In the second round of the Medicare DMEPOS Competitive Bidding program, we anticipate that the round 1 Rebid products will be included.  In addition, the following DMEPOS product categories are being considered for Round 2.
